Time Flies When You're Havin' Rum!

I arrived at nautical music and privateering through a roundabout course. In a past life, I was a Klingon, and our particular crew of Klingons appeared at local scifi cons and community events. At the cons, we would filk a number of popular songs, all with a Klingonized theme. Many of those were chanteys and renfaire standards becasue they were easy to sing, easy to learn, and easy to tamper with the lyrics. Being fans of such groups as the Pyrates Royale, the Corsairs, Ship's Company, and others, we had a lot of material to work with.

The Klingons also appeared at local movie theaters to promote the openings of various Star Trek movies. When the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie came out, we were asked if they could make an appearance dressed as pirates. I found pirate garb much more comfortable than Klingon, and blissfully lacking a 2-hour makeup job.

From there, I joined up with Captain Molly Mudd and the crew of the Drunken Ferret (a.k.a. Pirates for Sail) and, in 2009, with Letter of Marque.

My nautical musical influences are many, and every time I think I have a definitive list, I discover more great musicians: Pyrates Royale, Corsairs, Crimson Pirates, Ship's Company, Gaelic Storm, Stan Rogers, Tom Lewis, and on and on and on...

I'm also a fan of many multiple music styles from classical to classic rock, with short stops in folk and country.

My turn ons are bawdy crowds who love music, women in low-cut blouses and bodices, dark beer, and bawdy women in low-cut blouses and bodices who love music and drink dark beer. My turn offs are hairy men, hairy women, shaved dogs, bald naked cats, and people who don't get the allure of nautical music, folk songs, pirate clothes, and bawdy women with dark beer and low-cut blouses and bodices.

I also have a soft spot for dogs big and small, and I think my two sons are pretty cool too.
